Name your feelings

So often we wear our feelings on our faces. This is absolutely normal. We just need to be mindful that our children are always watching.

My son sometimes says to me, “Mammy, what is the purpose of your face?” He heard this on the Disney movie Home, when an alien asks his human friend what the look on her face means. My son thinks this is a great way of asking someone how they are feeling..! What a great reminder how observant our children can be.

Don’t be afraid to name your feelings and to share with your child how you cope with the more challenging ones. Do it in an age appropriate way. They don’t need to know all the details, but if you name your emotions for them, they will find it easier to identify their own feelings.
