My mother always told me that good manners don’t cost you anything! She is right, of course – but sometimes, it seems like good manners are becoming a thing of the past. Hearing a child or teenager say “please” and “thank you” is lovely. Nowadays, I’m so proud when people compliment my own children for being polite!
One way to start encouraging good manners is by showing your children how it’s done. Remember, children learn by watching us and repeating what we do. So try saying “please” and “thank you” all the time, and don’t forget to praise your children for doing the same!
