Making your own play-dough is fun, inexpensive and an excellent learning opportunity. It promotes an understanding of the concepts of size, weight and volume and promotes language development. Time to get a little messy!
Simple play dough recipe
2 cups plain flour / 1/4 cup salt / 2 table spoons oil / 1 cup cold water / A few drops of liquid food colouring
Method
- Combine plain flour and salt.
- Add water, food colouring and oil.
- Mix until ingredients are combined.
- Knead well.
If consistency is too wet add a little plain flour, if too dry add additional water.
Consider adding one of these to get a variety of textures: Cake sprinkles (particularly suitable if you have children who like to put the dough in their mouths) glitter, sand, coconut or rice.
