For the most part, we adults are used to using complex expressions with more than one meaning. But most children are very literal. They understand it as they hear it!
For example, last night I said to my son, “It’s raining cats and dogs!” The poor child was looking out the window, horrified that cats and dogs were falling from the sky! Just be mindful of using these expressions as they can cause huge confusion for our little ones.
