Life is busy, and in the chaos of it all we parents might forget to check in regularly with our children. We tend to assume that if our children are not coming to us with a problem, then all must be well in their world.
Make the time to check in. Keeping the family channels of communication open has many benefits. When we ask about their day, our children feel valued and important, regardless of their age. Older children and teenagers may buy into this routine more if it happens from a young age. It is also an opportunity for you to suss out if anything is bothering them. Not all children will venture that information on their own. And you can share parts of your day with them, too!
